Kratky Hydroponic Lettuce and Basil…

I hadn’t planned on blogging about this because I simply don’t grow things very well.  I mean my thumb is basically black.  I can raise sheep, chickens, and goats, but I can not grow anything.

Until NOW!!!!

I started reading about The Kratky method of DWC hydroponics.  My reading progressed to video watching.  Usually once that happens it is only a matter of time before I jump in and try it. So I did.

I got some lettuce seeds. Then I started them in some rockwool cubes.  The rest is growing history for me.  The attached pic is 20 days in from seed, and I could not be happier.  I mean it literally is “set it and forget it”.  All I do is watch it grow.

Then I got chippy.  My wife had a basil plant that was basically dying.  It looked terrible.  I took 4 cuttings, and placed them in the rockwool.  After about a week roots formed. Now 14 days after clipping they are growing like crazy.  I am still in disbelief.

Anyway, I just really wanted to share my little success.  Now I am going to try spinach and cucumbers.  I have converted my wife’s office into a grow room.  Just so excited.

Good Luck!!! And thanks for reading.
